BREXIT MAY HAVE "DIRE" CONSEQUENCES - Mrs May says

Mrs May is apparently giving a speech today (HERE) where she will say the consequences of not getting the right Brexit deal for us will be "dire" for what she calls ordinary working people. This is a slight hardening of the language used in the manifesto which warns on page 2:

If we fail [getting the next five years right], the consequences for Britain and for the economic security of ordinary, working people across this country will be significant.

What democratically elected, liberal western government would voluntarily, short of war, put us in the position of putting our entire future at risk of "dire consequences" where the outcome is not even wholly dependent on our own efforts? The sheer insanity of Brexit is slowly becoming clear. This is what taking back control means.

Negotiations are set to start on 19th June - according to the schedule set out by the EU commission and will begin with an almighty row and a potential stand-off about the size of the financial settlement and the sequencing. We are still holding out for trade talks to take place at the same time as the withdrawal agreement is being negotiated.

This is going to be a huge test - for both sides. Neither can afford to lose. If the EU bends it will be giving up one of its major cards, if we conceded we will be showing just how weak we are. The next couple of months will be interesting to say the least.
