THE SHAKERS AND THE MOVERS

Almost as soon as it became clear the UK government was intent on following through with the referendum result the EU announced the European Medicines Agency and the European Banking Agency would move out of the UK and into an EU member state. This means the loss of hundreds of highly paid jobs (900 for the EMA alone). We then had a sort of hiatus where nothing much happened although the European Central Bank warned that passporting would end and banks and financial institutions who wanted to continue trading in the bloc would have to relocate some operations.

During the lull, as business and commerce waited to find out what Brexit meant for them (apart from Brexit that is), various European cities geared up to tempt as many financial jobs as they could.

Now reality is starting to bite. The prospect of no deal, while still low, is greater than it was and for some, the ticking clock was making them nervous.

So, I'm beginning a list of companies who have announced moves into Europe and I'll try to update it as time goes on. There are bound to be more companies leaving as March 29th 2019 approaches with no agreement in sight.
