BREXIT MUST HAPPEN - ITS THE ONLY WAY TO REVERSE IT

John Harris, a Guardian columnist (HERE), sums up my own thinking about Brexit as expressed in this blog (HERE). He says it is a terrible idea but we have to go through with it. I have always believed this. Brexiteers, at least those who had any idea what it was they thought they were voting for, vary between those who think we are going to be much better off outside the EU and those who don't care whether we are or not but would leave even if we had to go back to the stone age as a result. We are not going to change their mind easily, some will never change their minds at all.

If Brexit is blocked the backlash would be terrible. In these circumstances the only possible salvation is to demonstrate - without any shadow of doubt - just how terrible an idea Brexit is. Nothing short of going through the process, led by Brexiteers themselves so there can be no question of it being thwarted by non believers, and sustaining the economic damage we all know is inevitable to show what we have given up.

The recent reversal in our economic fortunes, with the EU beginning to grow strongly while we slow down, is welcome. Paradoxically, the harder the Brexit we undergo, the quicker we will be able to have a new referendum to reverse it.
