An economist (HERE) has predicted that Brexit will never happen because we will eventually realise what a can of worms we have opened and back out of it. This would be good if it happened but it won't. Andrew Freris, CEO of Ecognosis Advisory, said the UK will eventually “throw in the towel” and abandon the idea of leaving the EU. This assumes a capacity for introspection and self doubt that the Brexiteers simply do not have.
Can anyone seriously imagine David Davis coming on TV with a mea culpa and admitting it has all been a dreadful mistake? The ego of men like Davis (and most of the Brexiteers probably with the exception of Johnson who doesn't believe in anything anyway) is so vast and impregnable it is impossible to see even the smallest regret ever scaling the mighty ramparts.
Even if the nation collapsed into a state resembling the present Venezuela we would be told Brexit had nothing to do with it and good times are waiting just around the next corner. All we have to do is carry on the struggle for another few years.
