EURATOM

Dominic Cummings who appears regularly in this blog and was the so-called mastermind behind Brexit (an oxymoron if ever there was one) has entered the fray about Euratom (HERE). He says those in government who favour leaving Europe's nuclear regulatory body are "morons". He does not seem to have been told it was not the government's idea but an unforeseen corollary of leaving the EU - as determined by the EU.

No country which is a member of Euratom is not a member of the EU. Euratom is overseen by the European Court of Justice anyway, something we have said is a red line issue for us, although I suspect Mrs May said it was a red line issue before realising it meant we must leave Euratom.

As a matter of interest I thought it would be a useful exercise to look at the great 1032 page tome produced by Matthew Elliot - former professional footballer - and Dominic Cummings' colleague and Chief Executive at Vote Leave. This makes clear on page 585 (HERE) we are leaving Euratom if we leave the EU:

"Again, non-EU states have secured access to Euratom programmes, such as Switzerland. The UK may wish to look into securing a ‘special deal’ that would allow continued cooperation in this area"

It rather looks as if Mr Cummings is the moron - he didn't read his own sides documents and obviously didn't realise what he was campaigning for.

We are now apparently scrambling to achieve something called associate membership (HERE) but we are beholding to the EU to allow this.
