THE IDEOLOGICAL DR FOX

In what is thought will go down in history as the greatest ever example of the kettle calling the pot black, Dr Liam Fox, the Trade Secretary and hard line Brexiteer has accused the EU of "putting ideology before the well-being of citizens" (HERE). Speaking to the press wearing army fatigues and a balaclava, with a backdrop showing crossed AK47s and NO SURRENDER in giant letters, Fox, sitting alongside other members of the Brexit Army Council said:

"What the Commission seems to be saying is look, there has to be Brexit on their terms, or no deal at all.

"Now, that may be in line with their own theological attachment to ever-closer union and EU treaties but it may have a large cost to EU member states, the member states who require jobs, prosperity, and trade, because they need to get elected, unlike the Commission officials."

Dr Fox added: "The EU then need to tell us how they intend to get the frictionless borders that we want to see. So they can't keep rejecting things without telling us exactly what it is they want.

"So negotiations will continue, and we'll want to know from them if they don't want that as a proposal, what do they want, because if they keep saying no to everything they will end up with no deal."

The befuddled Trade Secretary seems to think the EU want something from us. If I look at the government's endless position and technical papers, the future framework papers and now the Chequers White Paper it all looks like we want everything from THEM. On the EU side I don't see  they're asking anything from us.

He seems a little foggy on what Article 50 did. It started a clock ticking, after two years we're out of the EU. The terms are no deal by default. It's a bit late now to be saying the EU want Brexit on their terms. We set our own terms right at the beginning didn't we?

And I think I can help Dr Fox on how to get frictionless trade, you just need to be in the single market and the customs union. This is how they got frictionless trade to work. But of course Fox has rejected it. To paraphrase him: you can't keep saying no to everything because you'll end up with no deal.

It's obvious the EU don't have several alternative frictionless trade options to offer us. Anyway, the Commission have only had a couple of years to think about it, Fox has had most of his adult life (DoB 22/9/1961) but he doesn't seem to have any ideas of his own. Strange that.
