NIGEL ADAMS - FAME (OR INFAMY) AT LAST?

Nigel Adams, our local MP, gets a mention this week in no less an organ than The Sunday Times. The Business section has a front page story - just a small one at the bottom right, but, hey, it's a mention isn't it? Mind you I'm not sure he'll be too pleased with it.

For some reason the Murdoch flagship newspaper is running a story about a Sanjeev Gupta donating £37,000 to MPs over the last three years, of which £32,000 went to our Nigel, including what is described as a £16,000 auction prize.

The piece has the title: Steel tycoon Gupta hands out £37,000 in gifts to MPs.

It also mentions that Adams supports burning biomass in power stations and that he was the largest recipient of Gupta's largesse. And that's about it. Except that Adams didn't respond to requests for a comment. Hardly surprising is it?  What can he say?

I ask myself why?

On the surface it's hardly a gripping story with a huge public interest angle. And on the front page? Who is it aimed at? Is it Gupta or Adams? Has Adams upset somebody? He's a very junior minister, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Housing, Communities and Local Government), so it's not obvious he's in any position to make any major decisions that upset Rupert Murdoch.

It's all a bit mysterious but no doubt it will become clear in time.
