JUNE WAS THE END OF MAY THIS YEAR

There seems to be near universal acceptance that Mrs May is finished. The only uncertainty is the date she is forced to step down. She is virtually powerless and more importantly, friendless and her own personal exit clock is ticking. Thoughts turned on Friday morning to who will replace her as party leader and it seems Boris Johnson tops the bookies list of favourites along with Amber Rudd and David Davis.

If Johnson becomes leader the Conservatives will be exchanging a fool for an idiot. Davis and Rudd are just low grade managers. Corbyn is more of a campaigner and agitator rather than a leader and his team is just as lacklustre. When a nation is in decline this is what happens. The quality of the leaders we have to choose from goes from bad to worse.

Johnson is a unique politician. He can demonstrate he knows nothing in six different languages while being completely unable to comb his hair or tuck his shirt in. Perhaps he is the only man able to combine the sartorial elegance of Michael Foot with the diplomatic skills of Donald Trump. If he becomes leader the Conservatives will lose the next election for sure. Bring it on.

What can we say about Davis and Rudd? Not much. Davis has been rightly rejected by the members once and Mrs Rudd is an unknown quantity with a majority of 360 or so. She may not even be an MP next time. What have we come to?
