John Longworth was on The Today programme yesterday morning suggesting a free trade agreement with the EU was simply the "icing on the cake", with a hard Brexit (leaving both the single market and the customs union that is) being the cake itself. He said the icing was nice but not really necessary. This is lunacy but unfortunately not unexpected from him.
He says we have to "make the best of it and the best of it will be better than we have now". This is a minority opinion to say the least. I don't believe the great majority of British Industry including the British Chambers of Commerce that Mr Longworth used to represent would agree with him. We know virtually every major manufacturer pleaded with the electorate to vote to remain in the EU. Leaving and trading on WTO terms would be immensely damaging to our economy but the idiot Longworth cannot or will not see it.
He also does not even think we need a transitional period after March 29th 2019! One day I hope to be able to hear him admit he was totally wrong.
