POLL 59 IN WHATUKTHINKS SERIES

The most recent poll in the YouGov, WhatUKthinks series has just been published this afternoon (HERE). It's the 59th and once again shows a lead for WRONG this time by 2%. This is in answer to the question: In hindsight, do you think Britain was right or wrong to vote to leave the EU?

In total now out of the 59 polls RIGHT leads in 28, WRONG in 23 with 8 level. But look at it this way. The first 27 polls had RIGHT in front 22 times with 4 polls level and just the single on showing WRONG in the lead.

I am pleased to say out of the last 21, WRONG has been in front 17 times, they were level 3 times and RIGHT has led just once. This is almost a complete reversal of the state of opinion since the latter half of 2016.

By the end of April or so there will almost certainly be more polls where WRONG is ahead than RIGHT.

What is encouraging is how consistent these numbers are becoming. The first year or so reflected the actual result of the vote so one might assume it was a reasonably accurate. If you can indeed assume it is an accurate poll, the last eight months since June 2017 show a majority now think it is wrong. At the moment, some people who voted leave might think it was democratic and we just have to go through with it.

As the problems mount, particularly as the compromises show we will not have the freedoms we were promised and we get poorer into the bargain, I expect the number of regretters will rise and rise.
