THE GROWING DIVORCE BILL

There was almost jubilation among Brexiteers when the divorce bill was declared at somewhere between £35 - £39 billion as if it was a small price to pay. They at first claimed we shouldn't pay a penny but then claimed £39 billion was a good deal because the EU had demanded 100 billion Euro. Of course they never demanded any specific figure, other than we should pay what we owe - which we have now done.

But it turns out, so the National Audit Office say (HERE), that the figure is a bit misleading. It doesn't include £3 billion in potential budget contributions or £2.9 billion in payments to the European Development Fund. Also, £7.2 billion in receipts will apparently actually go to private companies so won't impact government savings at all.

This is quite normal for governments. Bad news is almost always dripped out slowly over a long period as if giving it to us in one lot might prove too much for some sensitive souls who would be so shocked they might need medical treatment.

Expect the figure to get higher and higher as time goes on.
