NEW METHOD FOR ELECTING MPs

All this Brexit stuff has whetted the appetite of many people for radical change and in the spirit of refreshing our democracy I want to propose an entirely new and novel system for getting MPs into parliament. As far as I know this has never been tried anywhere in the world but I'm quite sure it will find favour in this country.

Instead of First Past The Post or some form of Proportional Representation, both totally outmoded methods I think we can all agree, we simply offer voters a simple and straightforward choice. It would be between asking the sitting MP to leave or remain. If most people tick the 'remain' box the sitting MP simply continues in post and nothing changes.

But if a majority (50% +1) tick 'leave' the political parties then simply decide among themselves who the next MP for that constituency will be until the next election, when the process is repeated.

It's true there are certain parallels between my proposal and the 2016 referendum, but since most Brexiteers are perfectly happy with how it all went I'm sure they will readily see the benefits. Anyone suggesting this isn't totally democratic doesn't know what they're talking about.

However, to placate any nit-pickers I would make one small tweak, because very occasionally in the odd constituency perhaps, the parties may not be able to come to a consensus, in which case all the potential candidates are put before the electorate in a second vote and the people decide which one they actually want. What do you think?
