Nigel Adams has given an interview to The Yorkshire Post (HERE) telling them he 'can't wait for Brexit to be over' - something he is not alone in thinking but it isn't going to happen. Brexit is not an event or even a process, it's a status. We will be negotiating the Brussels for as long as the UK and the EU exist. This is how Norway and Switzerland live, in permanent negotiation.
In a remarkable display of chutzpah, he says:
“The Government made it very clear in their pamphlet before the referendum that leaving the EU meant leaving the customs union, meant leaving the single market - everybody was told about that".
This is the pamphlet which he said at the time was 'propaganda' and suggested it was only fit for toilet paper (HERE) all part of the 'scaremongering' that he said would be commonplace in the remain campaign. Andrew Percy MP for Goole used his pamphlet to light the fire.
For Adams, he is now saying there "needs to be real change" in the backstop:
"We don’t want a situation where part of the UK is treated differently from the rest of it and we are locked into a customs union arrangement".
Unfortunately he doesn't tell us how that's going to be achieved. If a flash of inspiration comes his way perhaps he can tell the PM and Geoffrey Cox how it can all be done.
And I notice on his website on 21st February 2016 he had a "why we should leave the EU" piece (HERE) where he said:
"There is also the cost of EU membership.
"Over £18 billion a year, that’s £50 million a day. This is an eye-watering sum which could be used to help new business start-ups, help firms break into new markets, and much more".
BoJo is being taken to court in a private prosecution (HERE) over the same £350 million a week claim which has been shown as and accepted as a lie multiple times. If BoJo goes to court and is found guilty Nigel Adams had better look out.
