Steve Baker, the MP and former minister at DEXEU until he resigned in July along with David Davis, has written a piece for The Telegraph (HERE) this week rubbishing the Norway option now being touted by his colleague Nick Boles, among others. He says a Norway style Brexit would be a "terrible result that would sell our county short".

BAKER SPILLS THE BEANS
Has Steve Baker accidentally spilled the beans? He suggests that powerful forces are at work in government (HERE) trying to keep us in the single market and he gives three possible reasons, one of which is the "guarantees" given to the car industry. Nobody outside of government knows what comfort Nissan got from Greg Clark back in October 2016 (HERE) but I'm pretty sure it was the assurance of "frictionless" trade by one means or another.

FORECASTS
Brexiteers are very fond of telling us that 90% of world growth will come from outside the EU. But how do they know this? The figure comes from a written answer in the EU parliament on 18th March 2016 (HERE). It was provided by Pierre Moscovici, the EU commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, Taxation and Customs.

BAKER ROW
To misquote William Shakespeare Some people are born stupid, some achieve stupidity, and some have stupidity thrust upon them. So it is with Steve Baker the junior Brexit minister, but in his case it is all three.

STEVE BAKER
The twerp Steve Baker who is a minister in DEXEU and formerly chairman of the right wing pro-Brexit European Reform Group was telling MPs yesterday afternoon they cannot see the economic assessment leaked to Buzzfeed because it's just a preliminary draft and it doesn't take account of the government's preferred option (HERE). This is mainly because he doesn't know what that preferred option is, beyond knowing of course that it's better than the others which were assessed. You couldn't make this up.

DAVIS COMPLAINS ABOUT THE EU - Oh dear, how sad, never mind!
Here's a laugh. David Davis, the cocky, swaggering bully, went running to teacher in tears to tell her that the EU are being nasty (HERE) and (HERE). He has written a letter to Theresa May complaining the EU are planning for a no-deal exit and putting the wind up British companies. It's alright us threatening to leave without a deal, a delegation is in Brussels today making exactly that threat (HERE), but if the EU plan for it, it's not fair. What a pathetic idiot he is.

BREXIT - A DISASTER IS UNAVOIDABLE
I know Brexit will be a national disaster. Brexiteers obviously do not agree, but they are wrong. The sheer incompetence and chaos displayed daily by the government, and in particular by ministers at DEXEU, convinces me that I am right and we are heading for a humiliation.

MORE CONFUSION - THIS TIME FROM BAKER
Last week David Davis did not seem sure if there was to be single treaty or multiple treaties between the EU and the UK, changing his mind in the 24 hours between his appearance in front of the Brexit committee and being called back to parliament to explain to MPs what he meant by suggesting a vote in the House on the EU deal might not take place until after we had left (HERE).

STEVE BAKER - UPSTART MINISTER
Steve Baker, former chair of the Eurosceptic European Reform Group and recently appointed as a replacement junior minister at DEXEU is already throwing his weight about (HERE). In an interview he is said to have "slapped down" colleagues who want to "reinvent things" in his words or as we might put it, save the nation from the Brexit disaster.

STEVE BAKER AND THE BREXITEERS
A video has emerged from 2010 (HERE) showing Steve Baker, now a DEXEU minister, addressing a Eurosceptic group called the Libertarian Alliance and telling them he wanted the EU "wholly torn down", saying it was an "obstacle" to peace and "incompatible" with a free society. This will shock most people but it will polish his credentials among Brexiteers. What the EU will make of it will be interesting.
