ATTACKS ON THE BBC - These are dangerous times for democracy

It's started. The accusations of biased reporting by the BBC are starting to come in. Liam Fox, the trade secretary, has written to Lord Hall, the director general to complain about what he calls the wilful ignoring of good news arising from Brexit (HERE). To remainers and to many leavers this will seem like a poor joke given the slump in the value of the pound and the slow down in growth where we have slipped to the bottom of both the G20 and the EU leagues. Unfortunately it isn't.

When senior government ministers think the nation's broadcaster is biased against government policy we are entering dangerous times. We see this in Turkey where President Erdogan is arresting journalists and professional people from all parts of the media because they don't agree with him.

What next? Are the government going to approve every report about Brexit where only good news is allowed to reach the public? If so, I fear we will be hearing less and less about Brexit in the coming months while people will be puzzled why the economy is stalling as banks and other businesses move to the EU and yet nothing about Brexit appears in the media. That or the government will be spinning disaster as welcome news that we should all be celebrating.
