WHAT VOTE LEAVE SAID - About tuition fees

The CEO of Vote Leave, Matthew Elliot, produced a huge 1000 page tome in 2015 while working for the pro-Brexit lobby group Change or Go. It was a considerable work with a lot of contributors and I tend to think of it as the Leave campaign's bible. Masochists among you can see it HERE. At the end (page 944) there was a helpful Q & A section and now, two years on and with the vote in the bag and negotiations underway, we can look back on what was said and compare it with reality. There is quite a difference in many cases.

Q118: Will students from parts of the EU pay tuition fees?

Mr Elliot's Answer: Yes, but at full international rates. This will generate more revenue for the colleges in question.

What is actually happening?

February 2017: Universities across the UK are experiencing a dramatic fall in applications from EU students since the Brexit vote, latest UCAS figures have revealed. UK applicant figures have also decreased to a total of 469,490 – a fall of five per cent on this time last year, and international students by a small margin. Students applying for places from the EU are down by seven per cent – the first decrease in almost a decade (HERE). Even The Telegraph are reporting it HERE
