Trump, the man who was desperate to get a Nobel Peace Prize a few weeks ago, seems to have launched a war on Venezuela this morning. The BBC are reporting explosions in and around the capital, Caracas. The man elected to get America out of wars and who claims to have stopped eight so far, is now starting new ones. He attacked seven different countries in 2025. The extrajudicial killing of around 100 men in small boats off the coast of Venezuela has now expanded into a full-scale military assault. We still don’t know the extent of it, or what targets were hit, but I think it’s pretty clear this isn’t just one strike. This is just days after threatening Iran with military intervention. Trump has now gone totally crazy.
He has become untouchable due to fear, and we are now witnessing the resurgence of the notion that might makes right in resolving international disputes. That now has the stamp of approval of three of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council. China will see it as a green light to attack Taiwan.
FIFA awarded him a peace prize on 6 December, an event he called “one of the great honours of my life." What a joke that looks like now, eh? The Nobel Committee are no doubt watching with interest.
BREAKING: The United States appears to have begun bombing Venezuela. Massive airstrikes are underway. War is here.— MeidasTouch (@meidastouch.com) 3 January 2026 at 07:22
Venezuela may not be the world’s greatest democracy. The Maduro government is a dictatorship effectively, with the usual mix of human rights abuses, political repression, and the manipulation or outright theft of elections. Stuff that Trump himself is guilty of, along with Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping and plenty of others that Trump has aligned himself with. None of this makes any sense if you measure it by values.
Trump doesn’t use the same metrics as any other democratic leader. It only depends on whether he likes you or not, whether he can make money out of you or not.
A lot of people will claim this is all to distract from the release of the Epstein files, which the Department of Justice is dragging its feet on. Trump’s name appears countless times and thousands of FBI agents are combing through the files to redact it before the public sees it.
Nothing that Trump does or does not so surprises me anymore.
It's long past time his cabinet stepped in and triggered the 25th Amendment before he destroys America. He has crossed a line now.
The BBC's legal case
The $10 billion legal case Trump launched against the BBC took another step towards the grave this week, following the House Judiciary Committee's release of the transcript of Jack Smith’s testimony on 17 December. It’s taken about two weeks for the text and video of the secret hearing to become public. and reading through it, you can see why. It is a disaster for Trump. Smith, the special prosecutor appointed in late 2022 to investigate Trump’s involvement in the 6 January insurrection and his removal of top secret documents from the White House, was an impressive witness.
You can read the transcript HERE.
Smith was calm, never raised his voice, never got into a heated debate with any of the MAGA Republicans on the committee and answered every question he was able to. Where he couldn’t, he explained it was because he was forbidden by a court with a Trump loyalist judge, Alieen Cannon, to speak about the contents of volume II of his report on the classified documents case. That should be released soon. Cannon was ordered to ‘address’ her gagging order by yesterday, and it seems she is likely to make volume II public by February 24th.
Why she needs another six weeks is not a mystery. She is married to a man who worked for a mobster in Florida, who is a friend and donor to Donald Trump. The corruption is off the charts. Far from draining the swamp, Trump has deepened it and widened it, and the White House is sinking into its own cesspit.
After hearing Jack Smith's harsh, direct and unflinching testimony, the most appalling piece is how Judge Aileen Cannon did everything she could to block justice from holding Trump and his toadies accountable. roberthubbell.substack.com/p/jack-smith...— Beaver Bones Darick (@darickr.bsky.social) 2 January 2026 at 21:12
But as far as the BBC are concerned, Smith's testimony was very useful. He told the committee that his investigation had "developed proof beyond a reasonable doubt that President Trump engaged in a criminal scheme to overturn the results of the 2020 election and to prevent the lawful transfer of power."
Smith has all the information needed to show there was no possible way Trump was, or could ever be, defamed by anybody.
