ADAMS & STURDY - Still on the gravy train

Earlier this year I posted an item (HERE) about IPSA announcing that from the "next General Election onward" MPs would not be allowed to employ family members. It was too much to hope that this would actually happen. It has apparently been decided that there was too short a time between IPSA's announcement and the June 8th election. So the rule will apply to new MPs but not to existing MPs. The BBC (HERE) are now reporting that 122 MPs are still employing family members.

This was expected to impact Nigel Adams and Julian Sturdy  but if we look at their latest Register of interests (HERE) we see they are still on the old gravy train:

Adams:
Family members employed and paid from parliamentary expenses
I employ my spouse, Claire Adams, as part-time Office Manager.

Sturdy:
Family members employed and paid from parliamentary expenses
I employ my wife, Victoria Sturdy, as part time Secretary. (Registered 04 June 2015)

Alexandra Runswick, the director of Unlock Democracy, which campaigns for voting reform, said:

"The ban on new MPs employing family members reflects the public's concerns about nepotism and the potential abuse of public money. A transitional period is reasonable, particularly as the snap election means that these rules have come into force three years earlier than expected.

"However, there does need to be a clear end date. If MPs employing family members is wrong in principle then when the MP was first elected is irrelevant. While it is reasonable the current employees have some protection, it is important that we move to a situation where the rules apply equally to all MPs."

Our local MPs have very thick skins and accusations of nepotism have no effect whatsoever. Adams incidentally is now an assistant government whip - nothing like setting a good example is there?
