DIANE JAMES

In CityAM, Diane James the former leader of UKIP (for eighteen days anyway) has written a piece claiming that Juncker in his state of the union address will not tell us the truth about the EU (HERE). She says, among plenty of other highly critical things, "Youth unemployment in Greece is still around 50 per cent, in Spain it is 40 per cent, in Italy 37 per cent – and none of these economies are showing the faintest signs of growth. Banks in Italy and Spain have had to be bailed out again in 2017."

In his speech (HERE) Jean Claude Juncker told us "EU growth has outstripped the US for the last two years, while unemployment in the union is at a nine-year low, with eight million jobs created". We know that the Eurozone is growing very rapidly and the pound is bouncing around at the bottom of it's trading range against the euro over the past year. Growth here is at about half that of the eurozone countries and holidaymakers travelling to Europe are getting around one euro to the pound if they're lucky.

When will Mrs James admit we are in a mess?
