THE BREXITEER REARGUARD ACTION

As B-day approaches and what Brexiteers call "project fear 2.0" becomes ever more insistent, the anti-EU media are launching a sort of rearguard action to try and keep the Brexit delusion going. Eventually of course, they will have to concede it was all a colossal mistake, but this is years away I think. In the meantime, there is an attempt to misguide and mislead as much as possible, to muddy the waters. We see this usually on economic matters (HERE) but now as warnings appear of civil unrest we see it in other areas too.

The Association of Police and Crime Commissioners (HERE) wrote to the Home Secretary warning of the possibility of civil unrest in the event of a no deal exit. A few hours later, we see the Guido Fawkes website - a sort of go to place for the extreme right - with an attempted rebuttal (HERE), that the warnings were issued by politicians not the police. In other words, the warnings aren't to be taken at face value because they come from politically motivated people and almost certainly remainers at that.

Guido Fawkes refers to The Times which broke the story and says remainers are making "plenty" of it. But, he says "sleuths" who checked the story found it was issued by politicians! What he means is remainer politicians, because leaver politicians of course can be relied on 100% can't they?

The letter is actually on the APCC website HERE so not much sleuthing needed.

On reading Guido's post, one is almost tempted to think that he might be right. But then I note this HERE from a website called Police Oracle, that says the letter was written "after consultation with police chiefs". So, it was written by politicians (it was probably written by a civil servant anyway) but the message was from the police.

The letter itself begins:

The Association of Police and Crime Commissioners (APCC) and its members have been proactive in engaging with policing and justice bodies from across the UK in order to further understand all of the implications for our police forces on the potential outco me of negotiations on the UK’s future relationship with the European Union (EU).

Guido is straw clutching as usual. His post is really no more than an attempt to give confused leavers a "line to take" to combat the risk of reality intruding on their delusions. But the rising waters of reality will soon overwhelm them.

As I have noted before, when this sort of thing happens, it gives me a bit of a boost. The leave side had no real arguments before, right from the off they have resorted to half truths and full untruths, but as time goes on, they are being revealed for what they are.
